2008 USSD Annual Meeting and Conference

The 28th USSD Annual Meeting and Conference was held in Portland, Oregon, on April 28 - May 2, 2008. The Theme of the Conference was The Sustainability of Experience - Investing in the Human Factor. A record number of participants and exhibitors attended the Conference.


2007 USSD Annual Meeting and Conference

The 27th USSD Annual Meeting and Conference was held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on March 5-9, 2007. The Theme of the Conference was Modernization and Optimization of Existing Dams and Reservoirs. The Conference Proceedings are available from USSD.


Dam Surveillance and Monitoring Workshops

USSD organized Dam Surveillance and Monitoring Workshops on October 9 and 10, 2006, in Sacramento, California, and in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 30 and 31, 2007. The Workshops featured dam instrumentation issues, ranging from how to instrument a new dam, to solving problems and updating existing dam instrumentation systems. Emerging issues and new developments were discussed. Workshop presenters included professionals from Federal and State Government agencies responsible for dam safety issues, and consulting engineers involved in instrumentation activities.


2006 USSD Annual Meeting and Conference

The 26th USSD Annual Meeting and Conference was held in San Antonio, Texas, on May 1-5, 2006. The Theme of the Conference was The Role of Dams in the 21st Century. The Conference Proceedings are available from USSD.

1999 USCOLD Annual Meeting

The Nineteenth USCOLD Annual Meeting was held May 17-21, 1999, in Atlanta, Georgia. The Southern Company was Host of the Meeting. The USCOLD Committee on Hydraulics of Dams, with support from the Committee on Construction and Rehabilitation, organized the Lecture. The theme of the Lecture was Dealing with Aging Dams. Fifth Benchmark Workshop on Numerical Analysis of Dams

USCOLD was the Sponsor of the Workshop on Numerical Analysis of Dams, held in Denver, Colorado, on June 2-5, 1999. The Workshop was organized by the ICOLD Ad Hoc Committee on Computational Aspects of Analysis and Design of Dams. The Bureau of Reclamation was the Co-Sponsor of the Workshop. 1998 USCOLD Annual Meeting

The Eighteenth USCOLD Annual Meeting was held August 10-14, 1998, in Buffalo, New York. The New York Power Authority was the Host of the Meeting. The USCOLD Committee on Public Awareness, with support from the Committees on Dam Safety and Monitoring of Dams, organized the Lecture, which addressed the theme Managing the Risks of Dam Project Development, Safety and Operation. 1997 USCOLD Annual Meeting

The Seventeenth USCOLD Annual Meeting was held April 7-11, 1997, in San Diego, California. Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, San Diego County Water Authority, City of San Diego and Olivenhain Municipal Water Authority were Hosts of the Meeting. The USCOLD Committee on Materials for Embankment Dams, chaired by David E. Kleiner, organized the Lecture.

The theme of the Lecture was Non-Soil Water Barriers for Embankment Dams. Three technical sessions addressed the use of Asphalt Concrete, Concrete, and Geomembranes for Embankment Dams. Papers discussed several topics including facings and reservoir linings, cores, internal diaphragms, cutoff walls, performance and construction methods. The Sixteenth USCOLD Annual Meeting and Lecture

The Sixteenth USCOLD Annual Meeting and Lecture, held July 22-26, 1996, in Los Angeles, California, was hosted by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California and Southern California Edison Company.

The theme of the Lecture was Seismic Design and Performance of Dams. The Lecture was organized by the USCOLD Committee on Earthquakes to address such topics as Seismic Parameters and Seismic Analysis Techniques for Dam Design; Seismic Design of Earthfill, Rockfill and Concrete Dams; Foundation Considerations; Seismic Design of Appurtenant Structures; Reservoir Triggered Seismicity; Seismic Instrumentation; Seismic Upgrades of Deficient Dams; and Case Histories.
